Freighter loses power near Marin Headlands

January 27, 2009 8:56:37 PM PST
A 731-foot tanker became stuck for a brief period just outside the Golden Gate Tuesday evening. The Overseas Cleliamar was believed to be headed to Ecuador when it lost power near the Marin Headlands. The ship did not appear to have any cargo on board.

By 7 p.m. the ship had regained power and was moving on its own.

The ship's crew does not believe the ship touched the sea floor or suffered any damage, but the ship will be brought back into the Bay for inspection and to try to determine why the ship lost power.

The Coast Guard arrived at the scene within minutes.
