Freshwater flow reduced in Delta

SACRAMENTO, CA

Officials are making the move to hold more water in California's depleted reservoirs.

There is concern there won't be enough cold water in the dams to sustain Chinook salmon runs this fall.

Those runs are already in trouble. All commercial and recreational salmon-fishing was banned last year because of low fish counts.

The action could hurt the threatened delta smelt, which need freshwater flows to provide young fish with a suitable habitat.
