While lobbying for federal funds in Washington D.C. ... Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims and Supervisor Judy Case saved a man's life. The man in his 20s or 30s was suffering an apparent heart attack inside a Capitol Hill metro station.

Mims began doing chest compressions while Case, a trained nurse, gave the victim mouth to mouth resuscitation.

Mims said, "As I'm giving this young man chest compressions, I hear a lot of people standing around ... there are prayers. A lot of people I heard crying. Many people I'm sure felt helpless and the only thing they could think of do was pray."

By the time emergency crews arrived, the man was breathing again.
