2010 Census Bureau Jobs

They are two words you don't see very often anymore, "now hiring". Sam Franks, a Tulare resident said, "I've been applying everywhere and either everybody is not hiring or about to lay people off." So when the 25 year old heard that the U.S. Census Bureau was at the Tulare Library Wednesday hiring 200 people he dropped everything and made it there in 30 minutes. He said, "No, because jobs are scarce right now so you need to jump on any opportunity. I'm actually surprised more people aren't here."                  |   Census Job Information Located Below   |

Aaron Garcia is a recruiter for the U.S. Census Bureau. He said, "We're hiring in every city, everywhere. We need people counted." He was hoping 400 people would show up to apply and take the short test but only about 100 came in. Garcia said, "I think it's a great opportunity for the community that we're offering these jobs."

Garcia said most of the 2010 census jobs pay competitively, $15.50 an hour, but he's having a hard time filling the openings in the South Valley. In Fresno and the North Valley, the census jobs are going quickly. Garcia added, "Because of the current state of the economy a lot of people are looking for work and they're very happy we have these jobs even though they're temporary anything can help." As for those rare "now hiring" signs, we found a couple in Fresno. The new CVS store on Peach and Kings Canyon opens in March. And at the Taco Bell on Jensen near Highway 99, managers say they're always accepting applications. The number of open positions at either don't rival the whopping 1 million the government needs to fill for next year's census but they could provide more long-term employment.

If you would like to apply for a census job there is still plenty of time and openings. You can call the Bureau's toll free number for more information, 866-861-2010.
