Same Sex Marriage Protest in Downtown Fresno

Fresno, CA, USA Several couples were turned away at the clerk's office in Downtown Fresno Thursday afternoon. The attempts were part of a protest against court and voter decisions restricting gay marriage.

There are already 18,000 same-sex couples married in California, but the passage of Proposition 8 means couples can no longer marry.

Gay rights supporters declared Thursday "National Freedom to Marry Day". A candlelight vigil and rally took place Thursday evening in Visalia.
