Fresno Cab Driver Shot and Blinded

Fresno, CA, USA Gonzalez was bleeding and blinded by his wounds. Witnesses told deputies they saw a young man in a dark hooded sweatshirt firing several shots into the cab. The gunman then ran away, heading East on Adams. Sheriff Margaret Mims said Gonzalez was able to speak to deputies, before he lost consciousness.

Detectives aren't sure of the motive. Mims says valuable property was left inside the cab. Mims says it appears Gonzalez picked up the customer in Fresno, but since Gonzalez was an independent operator there are no records to follow.

Cab driver Ignacio Lopez says he knows Gonzalez. He says most cab drivers are very careful about who they pick up. Especially those who want to go out of town.

"It's real dangerous because you don't know who you got in the back. When you take someone out of the city out of town and then you start to get into an argument out of the city in the middle of nowhere and then it's going to be a problem you know because nobody can help you," said Lopez.
