BPA is an industrial chemical used to harden plastic. It's used in many products, including food containers like bottles.
It's also suspected of possibly causing developmental defects in children, though the FDA is still studying it.
The six leading companies agreed to stop marketing bottles and other products made with BPA in the United States But may still sell them overseas.
