Sarah Jane Olson Release Expected

California News She lived as a wife and mother in Minneapolis after giving up her life as a member of the Symbionese Liberation Army. The group is known for kidnapping newspaper heiress Patty Hearst.

Olson pleaded guilty to charges she placed bombs under two Los Angeles Police cars. The bombs never went off. She also pleaded guilty to taking part in the robbery of a bank near Sacramento. Another member of the SLA shot and killed a bank customer in that holdup.

While incarcerated in Chowchilla she contributed articles to the Community Alliance Newspaper in Fresno. Publisher Mike Rhodes says inmate journalists like Olson provide a glimpse into prison life that state authorities don't want the public to see.

Olson was briefly released from prison last year, and was heading back to Minneapolis with her husband when prison officials discovered a "mistake" in her calculating her sentence. She was sent back to prison for another year.

Solia is expected to go to her mother's home in Palmdale, and then register with state parole officers. She is hoping to serve her parole term in Minneapolis, with her husband and children. But efforts are underway by political and law enforcement groups to force her to remain in California. Sara Jane Olson is 62 years old.
