Dr. Chester Riggins Remembrance

Fresno, CA On Saturday every pew inside Saints Rest Baptist Church was full, and a tent was set up outside to accommodate the overflow of mourners.

Dr. Chester Riggins served as a pastor of Saints Rest since 1962 and traveled to Alabama to march with Dr. Martin Luther King.

In Fresno he is considered by many to be a legend, and in 2007, the community honored him by naming one city block after him, "'Chester Riggins Avenue".

Those who gathered to remember him Saturday said the crowd's size speaks to just how much he was loved.

Reverend Riggins also served in the U.S. Army and was a mail carrier in Fresno for 27 years.

He died earlier this month at the age of 80.
