Playstation Shooting Trial Begins

Fresno, CA Officer Kevin Bu described the night of May 7, 2007, "I'd describe it as kind of chaos. People running left and right."

Rescuers descended on the University Village Apartments for a shooting blamed on Jonquel Brooks. During opening statements, the prosecutor accused Brooks of stealing a Sony Playstation. Prosecutor Burton Francis said Brant Daniels, Drew Pfeiff and Kodi Shiflett all went to retrieve the Playstation from Brooks, "These students had no idea what was coming next."

Brooks is facing a murder charge. He's accused of shooting and killing Daniels. Also injured, Drew Pheiff seen here being loaded into an ambulance. Francis said, "In fact, as they fled out the door and ran down the hallway. He chased them out into the hallway. And he continued to shoot."

But Brooks' attorney Jane Boulger called the shooting: self defense. Boulger claimed the victims stormed into Brooks' apartment, demanding a Playstation that actually belonged to the defendant, "That triggered a response to just protect himself. He tried diligently to let them know. He asked them four times to leave. There were shots that were not aimed at anybody."

Testimony continues Wednesday morning. Eventually, the victims who survived the shooting are expected to take the witness stand and tell the jury their side of the story.
