Freeway Shooting

Fresno, CA The woman called 9-1-1 saying she had been shot while heading South on the highway somewhere between Jensen Ave. and American Avenue.

She told Highway Patrol Officers who responded to the scene that a red pickup truck, possibly a 2000 Chevrolet or GMC pulled up alongside her car, and her windows suddenly shattered. The incident happened at around 7PM.

The woman suffered a wound to her shoulder and was hospitalized. A Fresno Police Officer on the scene said it appeared the woman had been shot in the shoulder. The case was turned over the the Fresno County Sheriff's Department when it was determined the shooting took place outside of the Fresno city limits.

Late Tuesday night Sheriff's Lt. J. Stuart said it was not clear if the woman was hit by a bullet or flying glass. He did confirm there was at least one bullet hole in the car.

No information about the victim was available Tuesday night. Officers who saw her at the scene said her injuries did not appear to be life threatening, but there has been no medical confirmation of her condition.
