Dust Storm Causes Chaos on Roads

Storm Watch Hours after the crash, the dust could still be seen covering a CHP patrol car and officers covered their faces to protect themselves. They compared the conditions to zero visibility fog as they arrived. "I couldn't see across the road. I couldn't tell how many cars were there, you could tell the road was blocked, but you just see light bars, that's all you could see in the dust," said Sgt. Matt Drewry.

One person was taken to the hospital after complaining of pain, but a similar kind of crash involving ten cars and three big rigs in Kern County left at least a dozen injured. The crash also shut down both lanes of I-5 from Highway 46 to Highway 58 for most of the evening.
