Polar Bear Attack

April 12, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
A woman is recovering in a German hospital after being attacked by polar bears. The woman climbed over a fence at the Berlin Zoo and jumped into the polar bear enclosure during feeding time.

One polar bear bit her several times after she plunged into the moat.

Zoo workers tossed rescue wings toward the woman and tried to hoist her up.

They also tried distracting the bears by throwing meat at them and even poking them with sticks.

Crews eventually got the woman out of the enclosure. She was severely injured and is being treated at the hospital. It's still unclear why she entered the enclosure.
