March for Water, Day Three

Fresno, CA Day three of the /*March for Water*/ stretched along Interstate Five in Fresno County. The march ends Friday at the San Luis Reservoir.

More than 400 people marched up the /*California Aqueduct*/ behind me. Wednesday nearly two thousand marched. They want this water to be pumped into Westside fields. Organizers hope to keep the momentum for Fridays rally.

Water, water they shouted. Both growers and farm workers marched together they passed a dry field they say is proof federal and state leaders are killing California farmers.

Farm worker Aurrora Bautista said no water means no work. But the United Farm Workers Union wants growers to instead focus on better working conditions. The UFW issued a written statement. "We don't oppose farmers getting access to more water, but that access should be tied to farm workers' access to clean drinking water in the fields."

Comedian and Activist /*Paul Rodriguez*/ marched on Thursday and took issue with the UFW.

Paul Rodriguez said, "We are the children of Chavez, but they need to explain to me how does a farm worker exist without a farmer. A farmer can't farm without water."

Marchers finished by crossing the California Aqueduct near the Dos Amigos Pumping Station. But they hope the message goes far beyond California's borders.

Organizers think less people participated Thursday because of distance and they may be getting ready for the final rally Friday morning.
