Reedley House Fire

April 18, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
Fire destroyed a Reedley home Saturday while the homeowner was out of town. The fire started in the backyard of a home on Lac Jac near Manning.

The flames jumped from a shed to the home here.

Firefighters said there was a lot of dry brush, which made it easy for the fire to spread.

Chris Bump ,Cal-Fire Battalion Chief said, "It's just a good indicator of what's to come this year. In fact, below normal rainfall levels, but we had enough rain to get enough vegetation stand that it's going to be a problem for us. This is just the beginning of what we're going to be face with here in the Valley this year."

Firefighters salvaged about half of the furniture and other property from inside the house.

The home is a total loss, though, and the fire killed a few chickens in the yard.
