Fire Sprinklers Save Downtown Retirement Home

Fire sprinklers stopped flames from spreading inside a Downtown Fresno apartment building Tuesday.The fire started around noon at the Silvercrest Retirement Home on Fulton near Divisadero.

The fire started in a kitchen on the building's seventh floor. By the time fire fighters arrived, the sprinkler system had activated and put out the flames.

No one was hurt. The 6th and 7th floors were evacuated while crews clean up the water.

Everyone should be allowed back in their rooms later Tuesday night.
