Wearing surgical masks and gloves, cleaning crews scrubbed down 2 kindergarten classes with a powerful disinfectant called Q-128.
Visalia Unified administrators said the girl has not been to school since last Thursday. She's believed to have contracted the swine flu in Los Angeles while visiting relatives who had come from Mexico. Administrators believe she's the only one in her family who got sick.
Tuesday night Visalia Unified District leaders announced the first possible central valley case during a school board meeting.
Monday students went home with letters to parents detailing symptoms of the swine flu and how to prevent it. Once the district learned of the possible case, they started the automatic phone message system.
Since the incubation period for the swine flu is 1 to 2 days district administrators are confident it hasn't spread and are encouraging students to come to school as usual.
School nurses have been following up with sick students to make sure they haven't been exposed to the swine flu.
As for the sick kindergartner, she'll be out of class indefinitely.
