Second Probable Case of H1N1 Flu in Tulare County

Porterville, CA The first probably case was a kindergarten student in Visalia. The second, a young woman who works in a nursing home. She's doing fine with a mild case but there's concern because of where she works.

Tulare Co. Health Officer Karen Haught said, "Anytime there's influenza in a nursing home, even the normal circulating kind, it's a concern."

The young woman was seen in the emergency room at Porterville's Sierra View Hospital on Tuesday. Fears of the new flu strain have made the ER a popular place.

Betty Jones, RN with Sierra View Hospital said, "We're seeing an additional amount of people yes, who have the symptoms they fear might be swine flu."

The hospital and health department are urging those with typical flu symptoms not to come to the ER

"We have a lot of patients in our emergey room right now so, yes, it's causing us quite a load right now. So we're advising people to go to their private physicians," said Jones.
