The homeowner said he heard crackling and saw flames from his back patio and kitchen area. The fire spread from the patio awning to the roof.
The man was able to get his wife and three children out of the condo, and made sure his elderly neighbor escaped as well.
Both condos were damaged. Investigators are looking into how the fire started.
