Flu Outbreak California Cases

May 3, 2009 2:10:26 PM PDT
Mexico has reported three new deaths from the H1N1 flu outbreak, and now a college student in Long Beach is the first person in Los Angeles County to be diagnosed with the virus.

California Public Health Officials say the number of confirmed cases in the state is on the way up again.

They've now confirmed 24 cases, and they're testing samples from 110 probable cases.

That's up from 17 confirmed and 55 probable cases just on Friday, and two more schools have announced they will be closed next week.

Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control reports 160 cases in 21 states, with several suspected cases in even more states, and places where groups gather are going to great lengths to make sure the flu doesn't spread.
