Firebaugh G.M. Dealer on the Drop List

May 16, 2009 2:03:11 PM PDT
A valley car dealer and hundreds of others nationwide learned Friday they're being dropped by General Motors. Firebaugh Chevrolet has been a fixture in the community for 20 years. The current owner bought the dealership just last year. Michael Santos said he was surprised he got a letter because the dealership is financially stable. He now plans to contest the notice within the next 15 days.

More than 1,000 dealers received notices Friday. The CEO of G.M. said this painful move is necessary to keep the company afloat. G.M. said more cuts are coming. The automaker plans to shed a total of 1,300 more dealerships by 2010.
