"What brings us out here today is we think there should be equality, for everybody. No matter what your choices are." said Laura Shirley, of Fresno.
The goal is now to put another measure on the ballot, which would overturn Prop 8 and amend the state constitution to allow same sex marriage. But, Chris Jarvis, one of the speakers at the rally predict is a tough and uncertain fight ahead.
"I'm not that confident about it just because I was sure the Supreme Court would overturn this so I am not confident about anything anymore. But I am confident we have a strong group of activists willing to go the extra mile and I'm confident we're going to do that." Jarvis said.
Supporters of Prop 8, those who oppose same sex marriage, held small meetings throughout the area. In Clovis, a gathering came together at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic to celebrate their victory.
"The only thing that we're trying to preserve that a marriage is like God intended it, between a man and a woman." Said Frank Encinas, an organizer of the meeting.
Those who want to legalize same sex marriage are hoping to get the question on the ballot again, next year. But, both sides don't expect the fight to end there.
