A fatal head-on accident involving a big rig caused the CHP to close HWY 41 at Mount Whitney Ave. in both directions. The North and Southbound lanes of Highway 41 were closed until approximately 12:25pm Monday afternoon.

It happened on the highway at Mount Whitney just after 7am Monday morning.

The C.H.P. said the driver of a silver Nissan was travelling southbound on the highway, when for some reason it drifted to the right on the shoulder, over-corrected and ended up crashing head on with the big rig. Apparently, one of the big rig's gas tanks ruptured in the accident.
