It was a terrible discovery ... a woman dead in a Visalia park and now police are working to learn more about the woman and who is responsible for her death. The woman's body was found around 6:30 Tuesday morning in the area of Second and Court Street.

Visalia Police are still working on trying to identify the woman. Detectives say she had no purse or other information on her that would provide them with more information. They also aren't revealing any details on how she was killed.

Visalia Police Detectives say they are following up on several leads they've received about the murder of a woman here at Oval Park Tuesday morning ... but so far ... nothing has come to light.

Sgt. Steve Phillips said, "We don't really know much right now we're still conducting our investigation."

Phillips says detectives have little to work with. A landscaper spotted the body at around 6:30 a.m. on a walkway between two buildings. One of the buildings is a youth services office ... the other ... a large, brick office building occupied mostly by youth services and several construction companies. The owner of the office building was shocked to hear about her landscaper's discovery.

Danette Knopf said, "He said somebody was murdered here and I said inside or outside and he said outside the building and I said homeless not, he said no looks well dressed doesn't appear to be homeless dressed pretty nice."

The Lincoln Oval Park Neighborhood has been known to attract crime. A wide range of people from families to transients and drug addicts frequent the park. The city is trying to revitalize the area. June visits the park every day. She says the woman's murder leaves her and her friends frightened.

"It hurts you know it makes us all wondered what happened," said June.

The case already has locals talking about what the woman may have been wearing and what anyone might have heard.

June said, "I hope that something does come to an end with it, family members can have their final with it, and I feel bad for them."

Police are asking anyone with information to call them immediately. An autopsy is expected within the next couple days.
