Sund-Carrington Foundation in Jeopardy

The California-Based Sund-Carrington Foundation has fallen victim to changing times and a weak economy.Ten years ago Carole and Juli Sund and their Argentinean visitor Silvina Peloso went missing while on a sightseeing trip to Yosemite National Park.

Francis and Carole Carrington ... Carole Sund's parents posted a reward for any information on their whereabouts.

They believed it was the reward money and ensuing media attention that gave them their first break in the case. And it was for that reason they set up the Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation.

Scott Webb said, "They found that it made the difference in their own case and they wanted to help other families that didn't have the same financial resources to be able to post rewards, gain the media attention."

Executive Director Scott Webb says over the last ten years the Sund/Carrington Foundation has posted 3.5 million dollars for rewards in over 540 different cases in 47 states.

They posted a reward in Modesto's Lacey Peterson case ... Kings County's Debbie Hawk case ... and recently the Sandra Cantu case in Tracy. The person who came forward with information about the disappearance of little Sandra received more than 21-thousand dollars in reward money.

The Fresno Police Department has enlisted the help of the Sund/Carrington Foundation in five unsolved Fresno area cases.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said, "We would like it if people out of the goodness of their heart or out of their conscience would give us information but that's not always the case. Money does motivate people to provide us with information."

Chief Dyer says his department is closer to solving one of those unsolved cases.

But now in their 70's, founders Francis and Carole Carrington have announced they will no longer fund the foundation.

The family's business interests have reportedly felt the impact of the recession.

"The time has come for the Carrington's to step aside and let some other people step up," said Webb.

Unless someone ... or some group steps up by Friday ... the foundation will be dissolved.
