6-Yr-Old Witnessed Grandmothers Murder in Gustine | ABC30 Fresno

Gustine, CA Police say she was in her home on Sycamore near Sixth Avenue when she was stabbed.

Police say Linda Guzman ran from her home after being stabbed and collapsed in her neighbor's front yard. She died a short time later, and now her brother-in-law is in jail facing possible murder charges.

Devastated friends and family members of Linda Guzman turned to each other for support after learning the 49 year old little league coach had been killed.

Marie Rosemire said, "Linda, when I think of Linda, I think of children, she coached all the kids in this town. I swear everyone was on her and Andy's teams. Her walls are covered with her grandchildren's pictures."

Gustine police say one of those grandchildren, a six year old girl, witnessed the attack on her grandmother inside this home.

Gustine Police Chief Richard Calderon said, "We believe she was injured in her residence and ran across the street for help, asking them to call police."

Paramedics found /*Linda Guzman*/ in the yard, but were not able to save her. Just a short time later, officers arrested her 52 year old brother in law, /*Alfonso Guzman*/, on homicide charges.

"We know him, we've made contact with him before, but nothing of any serious nature of this same sort," said Chief Calderon.

Now residents of this small, close-knit community are just trying to come to terms with the senseless death of a long-time friend and neighbor.

"We've been neighbors for 28-30 years, our boys were best friends all through school. I think of children when I think Linda and giving and love, lots of it," said Rosemire.

This is Gustine's first homicide this year. Friends of Linda Guzman say she had three children, including a daughter in the military who is now on her way here from San Diego.
