Body found at Shaver Lake

The body of a dead man washed up in Shaver Lake early Friday. Action News reporter John-Thomas Kobos shows us why detectives are having a difficult time figuring out how this man died and why boaters had to wait hours to leave the lake.Boating traffic on Shaver Lake came to a stand still before lunch time Friday. Fresno County deputies were told the body of a man was floating in the water near an empty kayak.

"Apparently two fishermen located a body in the water," said Deputy Chris Curtice.

Curtice said there is some type of gash on the victim's head. "We don't know what this is because there is trauma obviously it could be a sign of foul play, it could also be a boating accident, it could be hit and run. We just don't know."

While deputies investigated this death they shut down this marina. That meant many boaters just like this, could not leave for nearly 6 hours.

"People were lined up because they had to inspect every boat as it came out of the water," said James Canfield.

James and Karen Canfield traveled from Pasadena to Shaver Lake for a week long bible campout.

"It seems like some of the city followed you up here on your last day," I asked. "Yeah. Back to the news. Back to the chaos. Huh? It happens. But we all said a prayer for the people," said Karen.

Jenni Morris and her family were here in 2006 when Dallen McEntire was hit by a passing boat and nearly died from his injuries.

"I know they eventually caught the boater. We hate to hear anybody ever gets hurt on a lake. We've been boating since I was a little child," said Morris.

And while it's not known how this man died deputies want to remind everyone to be safe while on the water.
