Late Mothers Day for Some

June 26, 2009 9:51:55 PM PDT
Mother's Day came a month late for hundreds of moms who are serving time in California prisons.Friday 32 buses filled with more than 700 children from around the state arrived at three prisons, including the two women's facilities in Chowchilla.

The kids were supposed to visit their moms on Mother's Day, but concerns about the H1N1 Virus postponed the 10th Annual "Get on the Bus" event.

The mothers and children who were reunited this morning say they're just thankful to have the time together now.

The "Get on the Bus" program is funded through donations from churches, schools, and other groups.

Organizers say it helps families stay connected ... and encourages the mothers to stay out of trouble once they're released.
