Local Republican Supporters Reaction to Palin's Resignation

Sarah Palin's sudden resignation came as a surprise to her local Republican supporters. Some see it as a smart move, others aren't so sure. The question seems to be is Palin suffering some kind of immediate personal crisis, or getting ready to run for President. Sarah Palin has been Governor of Alaska for just two and a half years. Many of her supporters, like Irma Espinoza of Visalia were shocked to learn she was quitting.

Irma Espinoza from Visalia said, "I was a big fan of Sarah Palin. Kind of disappointed she stepped down. But I understand she is in the public view at all times and it must be hard for her. My opinion is that she should have stuck it out."

But since she and John McCain lost to Barack Obama and Joe Biden, Palin hasn't given any indication she wants to be out of the public view. In fact the big speculation is she wants to cut her ties to Alaska politics to focus on a bigger prize, the Republican Presidential nomination.

Fresno County Republican Party Chairman, A.P. Sidhu said some may applaud Palin's decision.

A.P. Sidhu, Fresno County Gop Chairman said, "One reaction out there it is a very brilliant move and a very smart move. If she is planning to run for 2012 it will give her the opportunity to go out at national level, meet with people and do fundraising."

But Sidhu believes it's far too early to tell what the impact will be. The man who headed the McCain-Palin campaign in California, Bill Jones of Fresno, said giving up the governorship now may be the right thing for Palin to do, if she wants to be President.

Bill Jones said, "I think it's sometimes good to give notice rather than not have time for people who choose to run if they wish to."

Both Jones and Sidhu acknowledge Palin has a lot of supporters who may stick with her. The big question though is what is Sarah Palin's next move.

Bill Jones said, "If she chooses to have a future in the party I think she has one, and if she chooses to retire from public life, that's certainly her choice."

Not too many people think Palin is ready to retire. The fact she quit as governor of a state with fewer people than the fresno metropolitan area probably won't matter to those who really like her.
