13-year-old Tulare girl drowns in the Kaweah River at the Sequoia National Park

She and her family were swimming in the hospital rock area when she got swept into the rapids and trapped under a big rockPark rangers say their rescue attempt was complex and dangerous, and it took more than two hours, You can see them on the rocks in this picture above.

The girl was dead by then.

It's the first drowning of the year at the park, but drowning is the number one cause of death in our national parks.
