Safeway is encouraging consumers to bring any hamburger, or meat loaf purchased between June 6th and July 14th in for a refund, or throw it away.

Beef Packers is owned by Cargill. A company spokesperson said it was concern over public safety that prompted the recall of more than 8 hundred thousand pounds of ground beef.

Sam's Club is also accepting ground beef it sold, but a spokesperson for Wal-Mart, which owns Sam's Club says it is contacting customers directly.

The reason for concern is the type of salmonella discovered in this ground beef. It's resistant to many common treatments.

Two of the 40 possible cases of salmonella from tainted beef are in Tulare County. Both victims are minors, and both have recovered.
