Valley Firefighters Help in Santa Cruz County

The fires around the state have tapped out all the spare firefighters and equipment the Valley can give up.Early Saturday morning, a strike team made up of firefighters from the cities of Reedley, Visalia and Tulare, as well as Fresno and Madera counties left home to help contain the Lockheed fire in Santa Cruz County.

Their job will be to protect homes and help with evacuations.

Seven strike teams from the Valley have already been deployed to help out on various fires. But local fire officials said they may start holding back now after sending out 228 firefighters in case there is a fire in the locally.

Valley firefighters don't know yet how long they'll be needed on the fire lines.
