Police pursued the man down the interstate at high speeds ... but they decided to back off.
They say he began swerving the boat on purpose -- until the $175-thousand dollar vessel flew off its trailer.
The suspect was arrested on larceny and reckless driving charges.
No one was hurt in the crash.
