President Obama Challenges Students

Fresno, Calif. President Obama went ahead with a planned speech to students across the country Tuesday morning despite controversy from conservative critics and parents. He spoke from a high school in Arlington, Virginia.

Many critics didn't want students to hear the speech because of fears he might try to indoctrinate kids with his political beliefs. But the president stayed far away from politics though and instead challenged students.

"I'm working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books and the equipment you need to learn. But you got to do your part too. Which is why I expect all of you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you."

Many school districts across the country refused to air the speech due to parent concerns.
