Non Profit House

When ABC came to Fresno to film its famous Sunday night show "Extreme Makeover: Home edition" this past year, hundreds of volunteers came out to help. And that spirit of volunteerism is still alive and well. A group of Fresno contractors is just completing a project that will benefit hundreds of Valley individuals and families.Over the last six weeks this home in central Fresno has undergone an extreme makeover. Five years ago it was seized by the DEA and labeled a drug house. Last year the bank foreclosed on it and it was boarded up and abandoned. It had fallen a long way since it's heyday in the 1930's. But an investor came along and decided to pick up the property for cheap.

Jeff Jacobson, who is involved with the "Time, Talent, Treasure" project said, "As the investor began to pray about it, he felt called that there was something more to this, that God was calling him to give back to the community."

That's when the "Time, Talent, Treasure" project was born. Dozens of contractors and volunteers have given their time and money to restore this old house to its original beauty, with many modern touches. The solid wood floors are all original and will be refinished. The walls have been resurfaced to their original appearance. But the kitchen has been enlarged and will have modern appliances and granite countertops.

Jeff Jacobson said, "The Time, Talent, Treasure project came from a biblical concept that God wants us to give of our time, talent and treasure to God and others in our community."

The proceeds from the sale of the house will be split between four local non-profit organizations; The Poverello House, The Fresno Rescue Mission, Evangelicals for Social Action, and Habitat for Humanity. Each will receive at least 30 thousand dollars.

Tony Miranda, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity says, "In a time when it is difficult, this project has really worked to unite the community, to bring together lots of supporters. There are people working on the house, people providing supplies and materials and the energy surrounding this house, that's exciting to see happen."

The project has been so successful that the house sold before it was even finished. And the contractors are already looking for another property to flip.
