A Madera toddler is safe Tuesday morning after missing for more than four and half hours.A citizen on patrol found little Michelle Vargas just after 11 p.m. Monday night. She was dirty and cold, but otherwise fine.

Madera County Deputies had been searching acres of fields when the child was found asleep in a vineyard about a half mile south of her home. They said Michelle had been sleeping next to her dog.

"They apparently spotted the dog; the dog barked the little girl was asleep. It woke her up and they saw her then when she sat up. It was a tremendous ending to boy what's been a pretty hectic and frightening evening," said Madera County Sheriff John Anderson.

Deputies said little Michelle was playing in her front yard with her siblings, when she chased her Pomeranian dog outside the gate of her home and wandered off.
