Bones Found in Madera Belong to a Horse

September 15, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
Madera County detectives believe the skeletal remains found in a sink hole may be that of a horse. On Monday, a sergeant was alerted to an area along Road 209 off of Highway 41.

Once there, a rifle and a bloody shoe were found. The search led deputies and a cadaver-sniffing K9 to a pelvic bone and femur that were dug up.

Detectives are waiting for tests to confirm the bones are animal, but investigators can't explain the discovery of the shoe and rifle.

It should take a couple weeks to receive the test results.
