Bill Clinton endorsing Newsom for governor

SAN FRANCISCO

The decision marks the first time a president has endorsed a candidate in a primary for a statewide office in California according to former state Democratic Party Chair Art Torres.

The endorsement may also help close the fundraising gap between Newsom and gubernatorial opponent Jerry Brown. Brown has raised twice as much in the race for governor. You may remember Clinton beat Brown during the 1992 presidential primary.
