Teen Tanning Regulation

September 21, 2009 11:02:05 PM PDT
A new study reveals most tanning salons do not regulate teens' exposure to UV radiation.Researchers at UC San Diego have found that most tanning salons allow teens to go over the maximum of three exposures during their first week of tanning.

In the study, only eleven percent of the facilities contacted said they would follow the FDA's recommendation.

71 percent allowed seven sessions in the first week. Experts are frustrated because there's no regulation of these practices.

Exposure to UV radiation from indoor tanning lamps has been linked with both melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.
