Starbucks Debuts its Own Instant Coffee

September 29, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
Nearly eight months after the company started testing VIA in its Seattle and Chicago shops, it will now offer the instant coffee to the rest of the country and in its Canadian stores. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz says it took them 20 years to perfect an instant coffee.

"We have completely replicated the taste of Starbucks coffee and I think most people will not be able to taste the difference," he said.

Via comes at a time when Starbucks could use a boost. The global recession and sluggish sales have forced the company to close stores and slash jobs.
