One of the stations that will be replaced is in Midpines ... near where the Telegraph Fire destroyed thirty homes last summer. The current station has no heat, air conditioning, or drinkable water. It's so old and weak -- that it's considered unsafe during storms.
Other stations will be built in Don Pedro and Fish Camp. Chief Jim Wilson says they're all desperately needed.
Mariposa County received a total of more than two million dollars in federal grants for the projects. All three stations should be under construction soon, and will be finished within the next two years.
