Apartment Fire in Central Fresno

Fresno, CA The fire burned several homes at a complex on rowel at hedges in Central Fresno.

Investigators don't know what started the fire, but they said a maintenance worker was the first one to notice there was a problem.

Capt. Lawrence French, Fresno Fire Department said: "He was working on the units on the outside. He proceeded to the roof to do some other work. At that time, he smelled smoke, got off the roof, came around to the east end of the units and observed a small, exterior fire."

That small fire ended up being a big one, with flames spreading to three carports and three attics until it destroyed several apartments.

The total damage is estimated at $350,000 dollars.
