23-year-old Staff Sergeant Christian Hughes was among five soldiers shot Friday by an insurgent disguised as an afghan police officer. He's recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

His mom, Barbara Pease, is a member of Blue Star Moms, an organization that comforts military families.

Wednesday morning she boarded a flight to Washington D.C. to be with her son as he recoveries at Walter Reed.

Pease says she's eager to take care of him. "I wanna get there. I wanna love on him. I wanna take care of him and make sure he's never alone and never feels alone and hopefully have the opportunity to get to know some of the other wounded soldiers and love on them too."

Pease said the Blue Star Moms as well as her church are helping her get through this tough time. She also said the Blue Star Moms are in the middle of a care package drive for soldiers serving overseas and she's asking for your help:
