Big Fresno Fair Opening Night

Fresno, CA While some kids had the carnival rides all to themselves on opening night, hundreds filled the Paul Paul Theater to listen to the Barenaked Ladies. Even without final numbers, fair organizers say they're happy with the overall turnout on day one. "Just walking around the grounds, there were a lot of people here today, it was beautiful. The weather was great, lots of people, it was the perfect opening day," Stacy Rianda, the fair's deputy manager.

The fair is hoping two dollar Tuesday and three dollar Wednesday will usher in big crowds. Next Thursday, canned food will get people in for free. "We're expecting huge crowds on those days because its' a free gate. We've never done a free gate before. We're expected a large turnout for that, we're really excited," said Rianda.
