Banks Sentenced to Life in 1977 Murder Case

Fresno, CA Madeline Aguilar still becomes emotional talking about her cousin's murder. 21-year-old Susan Vallin was raped and killed in 1977. An Action News Crew was at the scene when investigators discovered Vallin's body.

Just one month ago, a jury convicted /*Larry Banks*/ of committing the crime. Cameras were not allowed in courtroom for Bank's Thursday sentencing. The family gasped when the convicted murderer stood up, looked directly at the victim's sisters and said, "I know she was your sister, but I didn't kill your sister. That's all I have to say." Aguilar said, "I believe they weren't sincere. I believe he did do it. I sat there during the trial proceedings."

Antonio Alvarez is Bank's defense attorney. Alvarez said, "He's very adamant about the fact that he did not kill Susan Vallin. It was very important to him to let the family know that."

The prosecutor linked Banks to the murder by using DNA evidence, a technique the defense doubted. But the victim's family is certain justice has finally been served for Susan Vallin.

Aguilar said, "I know she's our angel in heaven…she will never be forgotten."

The prosecutor expects Larry Banks will die in prison. Banks is 53-years-old now, and he will be eligible for parole in more than 40 years.
