Who Hit Gage Castillo?

On the day when a 9-year-old hit and run victim is laid to rest, relatives and friends make a plea for help. They're hoping the driver responsible will be brought to justice.Very few leads are coming into Fresno's Police Department about who hit Gage Castillo. Two drivers struck the boy last week as he rode his bike through a busy intersection, but only one of them stopped.

The driver who did not stop is now facing hit and run charges. A detective tells me- they have researched all their leads and gotten nowhere. The collision happened when Gage Castillo and his uncle crossed Southbound Marks. Now police need all the help they can get to solve this crime.

Four pallbearers carried Gage Castillo's little casket into Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church. Some of his classmates and teachers attended the boy's funeral.

Debra Walker said, "From Gage, he was a friendly person. All the kids liked him." Walker has the same question as many people in this church- who hit and killed Gage?

Fresno Detective Brian Hance said, "The child is primary at fault for violating the right of way of the east bound traffic." Hance says the driver who knocked gage to the ground- stopped at the scene last week. That driver faces no criminal charges at this point, because Gage should not have been crossing the street. But a second driver hit the boy and drove away. At first, witnesses gave detectives leads. Hance said, "All of those tips have been investigated; however nothing has panned out to indentify the vehicle or the driver. So I'm asking for any help from any body."

Joan Steinhauser was Castillo's elementary school principal who has a heartfelt plea for whoever hit her student. Seinhauer said, "Please come forward. Help bring some healing to this family. This is a very difficult time."

The detective tells me - they do have a few pieces from the suspect's car. They believe- a silver sedan hit Gage- but that's all they know. If you have any information about this collision- you're asked to call the Fresno Police Department.
