CDC Releases New H1N1 Death Numbers, Almost 4,000

Dr. Ann Schuchat with the Centers for Disease Control said, "We estimate that 22 million have become ill from pandemic influenza."

The new figures are about four times higher than previous death estimates. About four-thousand have died from the swine flu ... 540 of them, children. Nearly 100-thousand people have been hospitalized with the virus.

Federal officials say while the numbers reflect a massive surge in infections, the numbers are also higher because the CDC is using a new calculation that includes deaths caused by flu-related complications.
