That would make it about one thousand feet taller than its nearest rival in Taiwan, and taller than two Empire State Buildings stacked on top of each other.
The Dubai tower is a residential, hotel, and office building.
Its opening comes at a tough economic time for the city-state, which has received $25 billion in bailouts from its neighbors in the United Arab Emirates.
