Gowin Green In Tulare With Yard Art

FRESNO, Calif.

It all started with blight from foreclosed homes in the area.

For many a new decade is a chance to reinvent themselves or their business especially when most are trying to recover in a poor economy.

That's what Shae Gowin has done with her family-owned landscaping company 'Gowin Green' in Tulare.

She spray paints yards with seasonal designs.

"To keep things going during the winter or just branch out to get more attention for our business we went into the painting," said Gowin.

Gowin said she first got the idea to paint lawns in October when she turned brown, blighted yards at foreclosed homes into green, fertilized ones.

In Tulare County one in 174 homes is in foreclosure according to Realty-Trac.

"The part with the green pigment on the lawns, that's just my part trying to help Tulare with the blight as well as water conservation," said Gowin.

This artwork lasts about three weeks. There's no need to worry about permanently staining the yard or even run off. This paint is environmentally friendly.

And neighbors seem to like it too.

"I think it's awesome. Before that they actually had a snow man on there and I think it is pretty cool," said resident Martha Ochoa.

Gowin charges anywhere from $15 to $125 for designs that she creates using stencils and a few other trade secrets.

She admitted yard artwork is not the bulk of her business but is one way to make a few extra bucks in this rough economy.

"I do enjoy being creative and its fun," said Gowin.
