Valley Couple Gets Good News from Haiti

The couple, who are co-pastors at First Church of the Nazarene in Atwater helped to build a church and goat farm and host a medical clinic in a town about 120 miles from Port-Au Prince. Their structures withstood the shaking, but many other sites they visited did not.

The Metcalfs have also been in agony waiting to find out if their friends there survived. They have been in touch with their team leader, a Haitian man named Frantz, through Facebook. And when they logged on to show us one of those messages, they got some great news.

Another pastor from Haiti wrote to tell the couple he's okay, but he also gave them a chilling description of the moments following the quake. "In the crowd I saw a lady lying on the ground and she screamed because her only son was about to die in her hands."

Now as the Metcalfs work to send more help to Haiti, they are also hoping the relief effort will continue for as long as it takes to rebuild the devastated country.

The Metcalfs are hosting a prayer vigil at their Atwater church on Tuesday evening to raise awareness and provide opportunities for others to get involved in the relief effort.
